physical therapy and heat

I can take hot baths but I can't stand a heating pad on my back makes pain so much worse. My physical therapist wants me to use heat durning therapy what should i do. and why do I have such a problem with heat.

See if you can get a moist heating pack. You may be having issues with the difference between the moist heat vs. the dry heat. Hope this helps

Is it the heat itself, or the position in which you are using it? Many times people feel they are "worse" with heat (or cold) when they sit in a chair, but get a better effect with it lying on the stomach...in otherwords, in these cases, it was a positional factor.

If not, there should be no reason why your therapist is making you use heat. It's effects are rather minimal and are mostly palliative at best. Just tell them your concerns.
