I'm a 25/yr old f who began working out for the 1st time with a trainer this week. I've always been fairly "fit" looking but never really that into fitness. I had not worked out seriously in over a year. We trained fairly intensely for 2 days straight. I was obviously beat up and expected as much. The third day I took a four hour car ride out of town with a friend. When we arrived at our destination I went to the bathroom and noticed my whole entire abdominal area swollen, there was still soarness from the exersize but it was not black and blue. I iced the area for aprox and hour (on and off) and took 800 mg of ibuprofin and went to bed.
I woke up in the morning and the swelling had gotten worse, however the pain seemed to be gone. However I was still worried because over night it looked like I was 3 month pregnant. I have a small frame and i'm only 115 lbs. I quickly got on a flight and went home and called my trainer.
He told me what happened was i have a lactic acid build up from not working out in over a year and then he kind of scolded me for "not doing enough cardio" in between sessions (we've only had 2).
I'm working with this guy for free with the agreement that he will be able to document my progress for print ads/web for his gym. i'm all about getting trained for free, but i am worried this guy is going to, well, hurt me.
Anyways. Am i being a wimp? is this a normal reaction for someone who never works out who just jumps right into it? should i run far away from this man? i have no idea about these things....
